W.
Peter Nordland, D.M.D., received his specialty certificate
in Periodontics at Loma Linda University School of Dentistry.
His research at Loma Linda University on furcation therapy
has been published in the Journal
of Clinical Periodontology. Dr. Nordland also appears
as an author in the new clinical textbook, Decision
Making in Periodontology. He has also written his own
treatise entitled Periodontal Plastic
Surgery.
Since
1984 Dr. Nordland has popularized a periodontal plastic surgery
technique to esthetically restore lost gingiva. He has published
his surgical technique and lectures on this topic internationally.
He has also co-founded the American Society of Periodontal
Plastic Surgeons. His lectures on periodontal plastic surgery
demonstrate the new possibilities and techniques of cosmetic
regeneration of soft tissue and bone around teeth and dental
implants. Recently, he has been asked to co-author two new
surgical textbooks.
As
a spokesperson for Periodontics, the American Dental Association
has asked Dr. Nordland to present many lectures for its annual
meetings including the International ADA/FDI meeting in 1996.
Dr. Nordland is recognized as an international speaker, having
presented over 130 courses worldwide in the past thirteen
years. With his teaching he has traveled to Europe, and Central
and South America. In April of 1997, he lectured and demonstrated
several live surgeries in Japan at the Japanese Institute
for Advanced Dental Studies.
Presently,
Dr. Nordland maintains a full-time periodontal and implant
surgery practice in La Jolla, California, focused on cosmetic
regenerative periodontics. He is a featured instructor at
the Newport Coast Oral Facial Institute teaching hands-on
microsurgical techniques in periodontal plastic surgery and
papilla regeneration.
Dr.
Nordland is an Assistant Professor of Periodontics at Loma
Linda University and is a visiting lecturer to the University
of Southern California, University of California at Los Angeles,
University of Pennsylvania and Temple University School of
Dentistry. In the year 2000 he will teach at the University
of the Pacific and Marquette University School of Dentistry.
