Microscope Centered Comprehensive Examination:

A Two-Day Hands-On Workshop (0-130)

Instructor: David J. Clark, D.D.S.

In this outstanding two-day course Dr. Clark presents a full spectrum of practical information on integrating operating microscope technology into the dental practice, coordination of the peripheral devices and applications, as well as, the fundamental use of 35mm and digital intraoral photography for communications and record keeping.

This seminar will be a combination of lecture and hands-on workshops. Each student will personally experience the advantage that vision enhancement through magnification with a surgical microscope can bring to patient care, in particular, for the initial examination. Participants will do patient exercises with microscopes then apply 35mm and digital photographic and other electronic documentation options. When you leave this course you will be able to:

  • Perform new patient examinations using the operating microscope and record the data at the time it is collected using electronic mediums.

  • Learn basic positioning skills and clinical ergonomics of using the operating microscope.
  • Create a Microscope Centered Practice that will change the way you diagnosis, image, and communicate with your patients.
  • How to best integrate micro-digital video and still photography into case presentation as a patient motivator.
  • Take a series of intraoral shade photos with confidence and consistency.
  • Capture visual data of the interrelationship of hard and soft tissue.
  • Use the captured data to communicate more clearly with the dental laboratory, specifically concerning shade matching and other esthetic details.
  • Set up a template presentation for use in presenting finished cases to patients.

This workshop combines lecture and hands-on formats along with the small class size to provide individual, needs-specific mentoring from instructors to participants.

Students are encouraged to bring a challenging or interesting case for review with the instructors and possible sharing with the entire class.
